Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao is going to launch Kanti Velugu Program 2018 for citizens across the state. This is an Eye Check Up Scheme / Universal Eye Screening Programme for ailments. In this ‘Light for Eyes’ Programme, authorities will make a database of eye health profile of citizens linked to Aadhaar Number. This service is absolutely free for around 3.70 crore residents of the Telangana state.

Kanti Velugu Programme 2018 focuses on making the state completely free from blindness and other eye disorders. The primary objective of this universal eye screening program is to ensure “Avoidable Blindness Free Telangana”. Chief Minister KCR will launch this Universal Eye Screening Program in one of the villages of Gajwel constituency.

GHMC, Self Help Groups and revenue officials will distribute eye screening slips just like distribution of voter slips. Govt. will launch one this programme on 15 August 2018 (Independence Day).

KCR stated that every citizen must have access to free eye tests and if required, free surgeries. Even those who requires spectacles and medicines should also get these absolutely free. This Kanti Velugu Programme 2018 is a massive first-of-its-kind initiative and will benefit 3.7 crore people irrespective of their Socio-Economic Status.

Govt. will carry out this drive in a mission mode just like the immunization drive. This scheme will help in identification of the eye diseases and will be helpful in performing eye surgery. Even a 30 day old age can be treated for Retinoblastoma. This is an essential step as around 30% to 40% citizens suffers from eye problems.

To successfully implement this Kanti Velugu Program, govt. will constitute around 799 teams. Each team would consist of 1 MBBS Doctor, an optometrist, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and other members. Every team will conduct eye check-up of around 250 persons per day.

The Health Department should ensure the readiness and availability of required staff, make the necessary arrangements to keep ready the required staff, medical equipment, vehicles, spectacles and medicines. For this programme, the state govt. has identified 114 eye hospitals to conduct operations which includes both private and government hospitals.
